Healing takes time.
Oh yes- I believe in miracles. I believe in instantaneous, miraculous, healing today. But, often times, for whatever reason, healing takes time.
Sometimes we don't even realize the extent of some injury until the healing begins.... and continues. Sometimes we think we're healed- and then we step crooked or bump it just so and "ow!!!" Healing wasn't complete. Sometimes healing takes physical therapy, rest, "baby-ing", rehab, special care.
What about emotional hurt? Soul pain? A wound of the heart? Is it any different? Sometimes we don't realize the extent of the damage until someone pushes that button again and we explode. Sometimes we think we're "over it" until one question sends us into tears for half an hour. Sometimes we can't get out of bed. Sometimes the pain lingers much longer than we want!
Healing takes time.
Yes I still believe in miracles. But sometimes healing requires therapy, rest, "baby-ing", renewing, special care.
How do we heal from emotional wounds?
We've said all the right words, prayed all the right prayers, spoken and claimed forgiveness and health- but the circumstances continue or reminders linger or a word sends us in a tail spin, and we realize the pain is still there.
Physically when on bed rest for healing, to avoid lethargy and wasting away of muscles, we exercise. We eat healthy. We ease back into things. We let others serve us for awhile. We take it easy. We retrain our muscles.
How does that look for soul healing? How do we rest without going into depression? How do we receive without becoming dependent? How do we release the pain without paining others? How do we take time for ourselves without getting caught up in ourselves?
Rest with purpose. Put on worship music to transform the atmosphere. Receive with gratitude. Exercise the muscles of reaching out in some way despite the pain. Eat healthy (literally) but also on a steady diet of the Word and good words. Listen to the Bible and good messages on audio. Get an emotional massage- let others minister life to you- words of healing and encouragement. Write it out and see the lies. Find the truth and hold on to that. Renew the mind. Ease back into life. Keep your eyes on Jesus and let Him lead slow and easy.
Lyrics to Whatever You're Doing
(Something Heavenly by Sanctus Real) :
It's time for healing time to move on
It's time to fix what's been broken too long
Time make right what has been wrong
It's time to find my way to where I belong
There's a wave that's crashing over me
All I can do is surrender
[Chorus] Whatever you're doing
inside of me It feels like chaos
but somehow there's peace
It's hard to surrender
to what I can't see
but I'm giving in to something heavenly
Time for a milestone
Time to begin again
Re-evaluate who I really am
Am I doing everything
to follow your will
or just climbing aimlessly
over these hills
So show me what it is you want from me
I give everything I surrender... To...
[Chorus]
Time to face up
Clean this old house
Time to breathe in
and let everything out
That I've wanted to say for so many years
Time to to release all my held back tears
