A trip outside of normal can do two things. It can show us ways things need to change, grow or improve in our life, and also provide a sense of gratitude and contentment for the portion we've been given. My husband and I had the opportunity to get out of our normal this weekend and go to New York City. It was the first time in almost nine years that we had gone away just the two of us for the purpose of just being together. (We went to two weekend conferences over those years - one with a babe in arms and one with a babe in womb-and a few family get-aways.)
The weekend was blessed from start to finish. Thank God, for great friends.
It was a dream come true for my husband to see New York City and I was blessed to be there with him. We rode the subway, saw a few famous spots - Ground Zero, took a Staten Island ferry past the statue of liberty. Times Square, walked over Brooklyn Bridge, ate at Grimaldis, and just took in the sights of the city.

We got to stay with wonderful, old time friends who now live in an apartment right in the city. We ate dinner with an another amazing family we know from a dozen years ago as well. I gained a new respect for city dwellers especially those homeschooling a brood of three! :) I also remembered how blessed we are right where God has us.
Three main things I will take away from our weekend that will bring positive change into my life are 1. Exercise! I loved walking around the city but I sure feel it the next day! My body needs more regular exercise and I have plenty of space to get it, I just need to do it!
2. Beautification. Make the most of every opportunity. If New Yorkers can create an oasis of beauty with a window sill garden, I can bring beauty to my home with what I have. Don't forget the blessing of the green all around me!
3. Take time to stay in contact with
and encourage the body of believers. Good friends are hard to find and genuine people are worth pouring into. We all need a pick me up from time to time. I'll add a fourth for good measure.
4. Make time to keep marriage relationship special. We are still people without our kids as well as with and our relationship is fun to pour into and the whole family benefits when we do!
