If we beg for help, then pride-fully refuse when it comes because it wasn't what we were looking for, are we like the Pharisees not recognizing the Savior?
Sally Clarkson said she raised her own support system.
Our kids can be a help. And there are other helps we may sometimes have a hard time swallowing if we are too proud. - The local food bank. Angel tree gifts one year. Food stamps. Someone actually stepping into our messy house to help clean it. A child of another mama with even more kids than you coming to help because you feel she should be the one getting help more than you - it may be a help for her to send her daughter over and you will be blessed.
People love to give. It's following the footsteps of God. If no one will receive, how can we give?
I'm not suggesting becoming dependant on others or support systems by any means. We all go through seasons of despair and difficulties. It's okay to let down the independent facade and let others give. Sometimes the season of receiving will last longer than you wish. If nothing else, this will serve to make you a better and more understanding giver.
Give. And receive. Keep the heart of a giver seeking to give even in times you feel you have nothing. There is always something you can give, a smile, a hug, a note, a meal, time, money, or maybe at times- the gift of allowing others to give.
And when you are on top of the world, able to give much, don't become so proud you can't receive anymore.
