So, today began with rooms cleaned before breakfast, hot breakfast served and enjoyed, kitchen cleaned, worship sung, prayers prayed, Bible read, history read and science begun.
Then, the science lesson suggested a walk.
I debated following the curriculum or skipping this little detail. Maybe we could do it to tomorrow since Friday is our normal "nature walk" day. Did I really want to gather up the baby, find shoes and go outside?
After deliberation I decided the "visual example"/"true learning" opportunity was worthy of the detour outside so... we found shoes, picked up the baby and headed outdoors.
We walked at the speed of light (186,242 miles per second) and traveled to the moon (2 seconds) and then on to the sun (8 minutes).
On the way back through outer space we came upon the neighbors tree swing.
The sky was blue, the sun shining and the temperature briskly fall. The swing was irresistible, so we stopped. We lingered. We played and laughed. We went home and packed a picnic lunch, a blanket and a good book, and we returned. Plans changed. And all was good.
