Been thinking ahead to the summer. Not really wanting to float through the entire summer on inner tubes, air conditioning and sweaty humid afternoons. We are looking forward to some fun activities (vacation with the extended family, VBS, the fair, swimming of course) but also wanting to keep learning! Why? Because it's fun, keeps us from getting lazy and obnoxiously out of rhythm. So, what kind of curriculum are we planning for the summer?
I've been planning a few different things to keep us busy. Yes, we want to do a unit study around the Olympics. And we will keep math fresh. We will do lots of fun reading and games. But, I would also like to focus on helping my 6 year become a fluent reader. He's been struggling in that area this year and is ready to be reading books with the big kids. So we will place some extra attention there.
My "preschoolers" can't seem to go without some kind of school work for a day! They love it! So, I plan on working basically on My Father's World Kindergarten with them. We don't have the full curriculum but will have a relaxed schedule focusing on a letter and 2 numbers a week and verses and projects to go with those.
For the older kids we were given a series of books on famous Americans and are looking forward to reading through those. We will add these people to our time line books and study the arenas that each person was famous in.
We are also reading through Mathew and Joshua this summer and learning one missionary a week from the book Heaven's Heros by David Shibley.
