Sometimes we think we have finally learned a lesson in contentment. We begin to get comfortable only to have the pillow ripped out from under our heads. We beat ourselves for depression; force ourselves to practice thanksgiving for our new circumstances until we can be content in this new place; only to find when we’ve finally “reached contentment” that the circumstances once again go topsy turvy. Is this really what it means to become content in every circumstance? Is this the secret? Learning to adapt? To be content with what is around us?
Or is there a place of contentment with the Presence of God and His goodness DESPITE whatever the circumstances are? Could it be, we are not always meant to adapt or conform to the places and circumstances we find ourselves in, but that we are to transform them, maintaining contentment in the dance with the Father?
“I have learned the secret of being content IN every circumstance”- not WITH but IN. For I am content and fulfilled only in relationship WITH the Father and I know wherever He might take me; it’s not about me learning to adapt, but about bringing Heaven to Earth where I am because the “Kingdom is not here nor there”.. but within me! My home is not here. “Home is where the heart is.” My heart is in the Father and His heart is in me.
Philippians 4:12- “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every circumstance.”
